Flickr and Photosynth

Flickr is one of my favorite all-time web services, and I confess a fascination for the big screen some commands people see Flickr with maps, Flickr photos and location data. You can imagine my excitement last week as Popular Science has presented a play about how a team from Washington University in Rome re-created automatically with graphic images from Flickr. The team took 150,000 photographs from Flickr users and use of custom algorithms automatically re-creates Rome with 500 computers and 13 hours of processing time. It was even better, and also recreates the city of Venice is slowly sinking, which constructs a 3D virtual model of 250,000 photos in less than a day.

Now you're probably saying, "It's an incredibly long time to go" - but the team is promoting the speed of 3D model building here too. The technology used in the Microsoft product Photosynth (which come as the research laboratory as well) had a year to automatically build a 3D model of Venice.

Be sure to check out the video views in the popular science website and see the final results of the library Flickr - the team set their sights on a foundation of millions of image of a city report on the future, so I hope that many more of these to come!

Compare Sheets

Most Excel users what to do if you want to compare two sheets of the same document? Usually, or navigate in both directions in an Excel window or open a second and bring the two Excel windows side by side to accelerate the comparison sheet. Both methods are prone to errors and the software takes way to compare the Excel spreadsheet is often the way forward to ensure error-free comparison.

One way to address this problem is defragmenting your hard drive. This operating rearranges the files in your hard disk to a contiguous form. Defragmentation is a process that moves the fragmented files together.

Most software for comparing Excel spreadsheets are commercial or shareware. Compare Sheets on the other side is a portable solution for free compare Microsoft Excel files. The only real limitation is that the program only supports standard document xls, xlsx and not the new document format. One solution is to convert the document to Excel xls if it happens to be in a different format.

CLCL - clipboard caching utility

If you've looked over some of the other clipboard managers, take a look at CLCL. It's an excellent compromise between the inadequate default clipboard and the advanced every-bell-and-whistle clipboard managers. CLCL allows you to access your clipboard history with a simple press of ALT+C or from the icon in the system tray. Frequently used clippings can be saved to the Templates category, and you can customize the paste hotkey based on the program you're using to avoid conflicts and set specify windows to ignore. Beyond that CLCL doesn't have a whole lot more functionality, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It stores the clippings you want, retrieves them with a simple keystroke-summoned menu, and is light on your system resources.

CLCL is Here.
